THE TWEED COAST is situated in Tropical Northern NSW, Australia. A place of astonishing physical beauty and extraordinary cultural diversity - a treasure trove of hidden wonders. With 37 kilometres of unspoiled surf beaches framing a valley of coastal wetlands and estuarine forest, rich farmland, lush pastoral country, a network of fascinating waterways, mountainous regions that are home to three World Heritage listed National Parks and a perfect temperature climate. The Tweed is truly a natural wonder.

Situated on the NSW/QLD border, the Tweed Coast is just over an hours drive to Brisbane and a step to the Gold Coast. Towering over the Tweed Valley is Mt Warning, the central core of the Southern Hemisphere's largest extinct shield volcano. Titled Wollumbin, meaning "Cloud Catcher" by the Aboriginal community, it is the first place on Australia's mainland to be touched by the morning sun.

Along the coast, seaside villages anchor magnificent expanses of unspoiled, uncrowded surf beaches broken only by rivers, rocky estuaries and scenic headlands.

Just 15 minutes from Pottsville, the Coolangatta Airport serves the nation and makes international connection. The area is also well served by interstate coaches and local buses.

Cabarita (Bogangar to the older locals) has one of the best surfing beaches in the area sheltered by Norries Headland.

Cudgen Lake is a total sanctuary for flora, fauna and is an ideal aquatic playground. A small village, it has shops and take away food outlets, a hotel right on the beach and a near by bowling club where you can have a great chinese meal!

Hastings Point is the nature strip of the Tweed Coast. It has a great picnic and BBQ area, a beach and Cudgera Creek, whose mouth forms a large tidal lagoon that small children and people who do not like surf can swim safely in. The Hinterland is home to the biggest koala colony in NSW.

Pottsville is just 25 minutes north of Byron Bay and 25 minutes south of the Gold Coast. Pottsville Beach should be high on your list of places to visit and stay. The natural beauty surrounding Pottsville Beach is spectacular with long uninterrupted beaches and life here is simple. There is no hustle and bustle. You will enjoy the breathtaking coastline and surrounding rainforest or for the sports minded tourists, you can get involved in the many leisure activities on offer: bowling, tennis, golf, fishing, cycling and surfing.
