OPERATION SANTA & TARGET CHRISTMAS SHOPPING SPREE - 17 December 2012

On Monday night, after all the customers had left the store, Target Palmerston’s store manager Mark Juster opened his store up for some very special shoppers. Three lucky Darwinites had the entire store to themselves for a frantic 4 minute shopping spree. The shoppers were the lucky winners of the Elders Real Estate Shopping Spree, but this was not the only reason that Mark and about 10 of his hard working staff worked late on Monday night. The main reason were the six extremely excited children who were about to embark on a shopping spree of their own. Four minutes in the Target toy section to collect as many toys as they could physically fit into one trolley (which ended up being three). The toys they grabbed were not for themselves but for some of the 500,000 children in Australia that are unlikely to receive gifts this Christmas.

The Great “Christmas Shopping Spree” is the brainchild of the Elders Real Estate team. Elders General Manager Chris Deutrom said that “his team wanted their last marketing initiative of the year to not only give back to their clients but also give back to the community” and Targets Operation Santa was a great way to do this.
Operation Santa is a joint initiative between Target and Uniting Care which has been running for 21 years. Their goal is to collect 100,000 gifts Australia wide and with over 2.2 million Australians currently living below the poverty line, local real estate agency, Elders Real Estate saw this as a great opportunity to help out.

“We have all had a great year but many Mums and Dads really struggle through this time of the year and just can’t afford to buy presents for their kids” Chris Deutrom said. “Many of us just could not imagine this and this is why we got involved in Operation Santa. It is our chance to give back.”
“Our six little shoppers did an amazing job in their four minutes, which actually ended up being five minutes as we couldn’t get them out of the toy department. Their trolley was overflowing and in the end they needed three trolleys to fit everything in.”

Mark Juster Targets store Manager said that “Thanks to the Elders team we have easily beaten last years effort and we hope that Elders chose to be involved in Operation Santa again next year.”

If you are interested in donating a present to Operation Santa you can do so by heading into a Target store and making your donation there. Donations are welcome right up until Sunday 23rd December. Other Christmas charities include the Salvation Army and Kmart’s wishing tree.
