HANDY HINTS WHEN SELLING A PROPERTY
Get the most out of your property - Before you sell
Decided to sell, but need a quick makeover?
Here’s where to focus.
TEN ESSENTIALS YOU CAN DO IN A WEEK FOR A QUICK, CHEAP MAKEOVER
• Clear away your clutter.
• Peeling paint needs to be patched up or redone. Give the house the best clean it’s ever had, especially the windows – to let as much light in as you can. “Cobwebs make a place look unloved and uncared for”
• Replace any blown light bulbs, fix dripping taps and repair faulty fittings.
• Remove most of your personal photographs from view. Buyers want to imagine themselves living there.
• Unless bedrooms are tiny, always have a double or queen bed in place. If there is a single bed, buyers will assume a bigger bed won’t fit.
• Put your best sheets, starched and ironed, on the beds.
• Borrow or rent some decent furniture. Friends, neighbours or storage companies can be used as repositories for your own well-loved stuff.
• If you play music during inspections, choose something soothing but remember house-hunters will have heard Norah Jones a dozen times already that day.
• Board pets with friends or a vet during inspections and clear away any evidence that you have an animal, such as dirty food bowls or litter trays.
• Fill your house with flowers.
