Proserpine is a solid rural community located in the
Whitsundays. Population approximately 4,000.
Proserpine has seen considerable change the past few years with people moving from southern areas and interstate plus strong enquiry from the coastal Whitsunday areas due to our close proximity.
Main industry is sugar cane with the local mill based in Proserpine. The cattle industry also has a notable influence in this district.
Proserpine is approximately 23km to tourist area of Airlie Beach (gateway to Whitsunday Islands), approximately 110km north of Mackay and approximately 300km south of Townsville.
Other facilities based in Proserpine are Whitsunday Shire Council chambers plus main works depot, main district hospital, District State High School, 1 State Primary School, 1 Catholic Primary School, Railway Station, Banks (Westpac, NAB, CBA, ANZ) plus building societies (Pioneer and Mackay Permanent), Whitsunday Coast jet airport is approximately 12kms south of town(daily services with Virgin & Jetstar).
